Nederlands Watermuseum

The Nederlands Watermuseum in Arnhem is the interactive hands-on museum all about water. Housed in a beautiful old watermill complex, you’ll discover in a playful and educational way how essential water is to our daily lives. From drinking water to dikes, from sustainability to global water issues – here you experience water like never before.

The museum is fully interactive and suitable for all ages. With over 50 installations, you can explore and experiment: test how clean water is purified, experience what it’s like to build a dike, or find out how much water you use every day. By doing it yourself, you learn how vulnerable and powerful water really is.

One of the highlights is the Water Workshop, where children can perform experiments, direct water flows, and discover how to use and save water. There’s also the Water Lab, where you explore the role of water in the world. How is water distributed? What does climate change do to our rivers? And why isn’t clean drinking water guaranteed everywhere?

Outside, you’ll find the beautiful Water Garden, a green oasis in the city, with streams, ponds, and water plants. Here, you learn about natural water purification and the water cycle in nature. For younger visitors, there’s a special water playground where they can splash and play freely.

The museum also focuses on the future of water. How do we deal with rising sea levels, drought, and floods? What can we do to use water more wisely? Through current themes, you’ll understand how important water is for the world of tomorrow.
